![]() elements Hoffmaster State Park Beach Muskegon, Michigan shot March 5, 2007 I've loved bringing you along on this winter walk to the beach at Lake Michigan, remembering my outing last March, all by my lonesome. Thank you so much for sticking with me. To get to this spot, I had to climb the 12-foot ridge of ice that formed at the water's edge. Until I got to the top, I had no idea what to expect. It was difficult to climb, as you may recall if you saw this photo I posted right after this outing, looking to the north. Today's photo is looking southwest, toward Chicago, which is there somewhere across the lake. As I say, the climb was on ice and difficult to keep my footing without spikes. But when I got to this spot, a vertical 'cliff' down to the water, I just sat on the ice and took it all in. Even now it is a powerful memory, recalling those few minutes sitting there, freezing my tush. You can see the many meters of ice floes almost to the horizon - clumps of snow and ice floating and undulating on the water, and then a thin line of open water at the horizon. Yes, all those hoofprints of snow (thanks, Alek, for the image) are on water. See a closeup here. Posted by Flying | Comment (25) Category: Places, Nature, Color, Winter | |
