Rock of Cashel

Rock of Cashel (Carraig Phadraig)
County Tiperrary, Ireland

I've come at Cashel a bit backwards, showing you crosses first, with a view of the surrounding landscape, now here is the bigger picture. As you approach the small town of Cashel, this edifice dominates the countryside.

The extant buildings date from the 12th century, but the site has been sacred since St. Patrick's time in the 5th century. It became a monastery in 1101.
