Cobh, Ireland 2007

I'm in Ireland until the first week of August. Yesterday we visited Cobh, the coastal town near Cork where most of the 3 1/2 million Irish immigrants left Ireland for the last time from 1855 to 1950. It's an amazing town with history that is astonishing.

A year ago, on July 20, 2006, I visited this town, and on that day there was a funeral at St. Colman's Cathedral for a 19-year-old girl who had been murdered. Yesterday, it was eery to turn the corner and see the cathedral again just as a casket was being loaded into the hearse. This time it was an elderly gentleman who died of natural causes. Here is the hearse and followers on their way to the cemetery.
