nasturtium

nasturtium

As I began photographing these nasturtium leaves, I had no idea I would be carried back to my childhood playing with a toy, the little handheld one where you roll the little steel bead around until it falls into the hole. When I bumped this leaf, the water beads (even those little ones) rolled around just as easily as in that toy. Apparently the tiny hairs on the leaves give the water beads less surface to adhere to. This particular leaf had its edges curled up, so I could roll it around quite a lot, as long as I didn't let it slip out through that mouth.

My husband and I played with this natural toy for some time.
