Turkey Vultures

Turkey Vultures (Turkey 'Buzzards' elsewhere)

My husband was barbecuing outside Saturday, and he called to me as quietly as he could to get my camera. We have seen turkey vultures circle over our fields, and they're elegant in the sky. But we hadn't seen them land until Saturday, on top of our barn, next to the lightning rod.

I used the equalize command on PS to enhance the macabre element of the clouds.

I found some interesting turkey vulture facts here:

* They're omniverous, but they can't kill.
* Because they can't kill they're called peace vultures by the Cherokee nation.
* They're graceful soarers; their wings form V's when they glide on thermals and updrafts and hardly ever flap.
* They're very clean birds, and their digestive system cleanses so well their pellets carry no disease.
