![]() sky high above Central Park another photo from the weekend visit From the “Top of the Rock” (the 70-story GE Building of Rockefeller Center) looking north over Central Park. The high-rises along the upper edge of the park (in this photo, but it's the west side of the park) are on the street called Central Park West; those on the bottom edge are on Central Park South. Going up the east side of the park (not in view) is 5th Avenue. This morning shot shows the Sheep Meadow (the green field) starting to fill up with New Yorkers and tourists like me who were sloshing through icy, snowy slop a week ago. By afternoon you could hardly see grass for all the people. I’ll post a close-up of that tomorrow. Central Park lies in the upper portion of the island borough of Manhattan and is 843 acres: 2.5 miles long by .5 mile wide. If you turned around on this spot, you’d be looking south, directly at the Empire State Building and at the Statue of Liberty in the distance. Before this trip I didn’t know about the Top of the Rock, which is a better vantage point than the Empire State, IMHO.
