![]() Birch route 22, Benzie County, Michigan It's Tax Day in the U.S. Our income taxes are due to the federal, state and for some, city governments. But because it falls on Sunday, we actually have until midnight Tuesday to file. I suspect many folks didn't have time to sit and relax in a chair like this one over the weekend if they were in front of a computer working on TurboTax like my husband was. For the cost of the TurboTax software (around $70-80) you can file your own taxes and not pay an accountant. It's a pretty brilliant program that asks you every possible question to be sure you don't miss a deduction. We generally guestimate that we pay around 30% of our income to the Man. Let's not talk about how much of that goes to armoured tanks . . . Estimated taxes are deducted from our paychecks, and then on April 15 we tally everything up and see if it was accurate, and either pay more or file for a refund. I'm happy to report that for us this year we're getting a refund. Whoohoo! I wonder how you pay taxes in other countries?
