Atlas moth

atlas moth

This is the world's largest moth species, shown here at the Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. Attacus atlas ranges from 25-30 cm (10-12 inches) in its wing span. See the 'snake heads' on the tips of its wings to frighten predators away?

I couldn't get a straight on shot, and once again I wish for a $1000 lens to show the incredible detail, but I want you to see it nonetheless. (I really am grateful for my camera; I don't want to be a complainer.)
