Painting of Thomas Edison

This WPA (Works Progress Administration under Roosevelt) painting by Edgar Yaeger was originally part of a triptych mural in the Public Lighting Commission Building in downtown Detroit, and then was hidden behind paneling. This portion of the triptych was retrievable and donated to Michigan State University's Kresge Museum. It is on loan to the MSU Union, where it hangs, framed. Thomas Edison is on the right, working with lab assistants inventing the lightbulb. The female figure symbolizes light and optimism.

This photo is my submission to the JorgDotOrg photo hunt: flashlight. I originally went to photograph the painting for my EastLansingDailyPhoto blog, but when I saw the woman in the painting holding a flashlight, I couldn't resist it as my entry for the photo hunt.
